Essays by:

LIEBNEZ, PAUL PERDUE

"After the Firestorm: The Voice Responds to Dr. Horton" (Issue 2/4) ** This is a response to Dr. Horton's intellectually weak, and theologically erroneous tirade against the philosophy of The Voice, a philosophy he clearly doesn't understand.

"An Analytical Framework Within Which to Analyze PCC Rules and Regulations" (Issue 1/1) ** This essay discusses the basic construction and framework of authority from a Biblical perspective. It is one of the most important essays published in The Voice, for it deals with the oft-discussed issue of PCC's abuse of authority.

"Beyond Tangential Tergiversation" (Issue 2/1) ** One thing has remained the same since the beginning of The Voice - most dissenters want to focus on tangential issues, not the substance of what is said in The Voice. This is a common theme that still hasn't sunk in.

"A Call On the Administration to Revise the Discipline Committee Procedures" (Issue 1/2) ** PCC is infamous for its philosophy (or lack thereof) of discipline. The procedural setup for disciplining students is the "Discipline Committee." It is in much need of change and revision, and this is what this essay focuses on.

"A Call To Unity" (Issue 5/1) ** Oftentimes when ideas clash, other things do as well, and in a Christian environment, it is ok to debate ideas of theology, philosophy and morality, but it is not ok to be uncivilized about it.

"Churches That Abuse: A Study" [CHURCHES THAT ABUSE, by Ronald Enroth] (Issue 4/3) ** The differences between spiritually abusive religious organizations and PCC are simply frightening. This book outlines many of the common characteristics of abusive churches, and PCC has many of them. This is MUST reading for anyone who cares about PCC.

"A Classic PCC Irony" (Issue 3/3) ** PCC has a remarkable talent for marketing themselves. One of the reasons, though, is because no one points out their own ironic behavior. "Be Yourself" was the message sent out in the 95/96 yearbook. . . yes, at PCC.

"A Common Misconception: Constitutional Rights" (Issue 5/1) ** It is not uncommon to hear students and faculty members refer to PCC's regulations as taking away constitutional rights, yet this is simply not true. This essay was written to clear up the confusion.

"Exploitation Theology" (Issue 2/2) ** This is a classic statement of Voice philosophy in summarizing what we see as the fundamental problem with PCC - exploitation of the students to enhance the school's non-collegiate goals.

"Fearocracy II" (Issue 4/2) ** How many other colleges or universities do not have internet access freely available? And how many of these (if there are any) had it at one time and took it away from the students? And how many colleges or universities take such extreme steps to censor all criticism? The reasons PCC has done this is discussed in this essay.

"Introducing the 'Rules Compilation' " (Issue 3/1) ** It takes a certain type of individual to like the rules environment at PCC.

"Is Dr. Mutsch playing with Fire?" (Issue 7/1) **Mr. Perdue disputes the PCC vice president's contention that cremation is wrong.

"A Letter to Rush Limbaugh, from a PCC-Philosophy Supporter and Voice Hater" (Issue 4/2) ** Although some people didn't get it, this is an analogy of the type of responses The Voice receives on a regular basis, only put into a different context, ironically that of another philosophical critic.

"The Mayor's New Ideas" (Issue 5/2) ** An analytical parody taken from Hans Christian Anderson's, "The Emperor's New Clothes," demonstrating the attitude of the PCC community and Dr. Horton.

"The Night Before Christmas. . . Voice Style" (Issue 3/2) ** A light-hearted (but ill-received by many) poem taken from Clement Moore's, "The Night Before Christmas."

"A Proposed Student's Bill of Rights" (Issue 4/1) ** This is an attempt to provide some ideas for PCC to implement regarding the rights of students. PCC is always pushing its rights down the student's throats, yet they never acknowledge any rights in the students. This is uncalled for.

"A Response to Tony Pittarese" (Issue 1/4) ** This is a response to a PCC professor who put a significant and lengthy piece about The Voice and its originator on his own web page.

"The Second Wave" (Issue 5/3) ** For the first several months of The Voice's existence, the primary complaints were about anonymity and rebellion. But then the complaints changed gears and focused on two other ideas. This essay focuses on the second wave of complaints.

"Some Comments, and A Potential Solution" [In conjunction with "Christians Criticizing Christians," by The Christian Research Institute"] (Issue 2/3) ** Some thoughts on criticism in general, and an idea to help alleviate the problem of student's having no outlet to voice concerns.

"Standardless Standards: PCC's Ultimate 'Law' " PART 1 (Issue 4/4) ** This is an introductory essay addressing the question of whether PCC really has all of those "standards" that they boast about. What is a standard? And what is it that PCC alleges to be its standards?

"Standardless Standards: A Case Study" with the story of Jeremy Piontek PART 2 (Issue 4/5) ** This is the second part of an ongoing look at PCC's "standards." This part focuses on Dr. Horton's letter in the Student Handbook and also a look at how one student's stay at PCC came to an abrupt halt when he stood for his Biblical convictions.

"Tis the Season?" (Issue 3/2) ** Some thoughts regarding charity, Christmas and PCC. . . and how they all interact.

"Trying to Figure Out the Much Ballyhooed 'Spirit' " (Issue 6/2) ** The concept of "spirit" is used in several different contexts on the campus of PCC, and when one stops and thinks about this, it is frightening how PCC is manipulating these ideas to coerce and unjustly treat students.

"Understanding PCC Ideology: A Comparison" (Issue 1/3) ** Could anyone possibly find similarities between PCC and modern liberalism? This essay does just that.

"Yes, We Do Have Rights" (Issue 4/1) ** PCC is often known to espouse the idea that students/Christians have no rights, and The Voice has tried to demonstrate in a thorough manner why this idea is not only false, but completely insane.

LUPOS, ASSITANT EDITOR, WEB PAGE EDITOR

"A Wish List For Arlin Claus" (Issue 3/2) ** A Christmas list of ideas for changes that could be implemented over the Christmas break (96/97).

"Behold" (Issue 2/2) ** Are we all bitter? Why would we be bitter at a college? A look at what goes on in day to day life at PCC.

"Ears For the Mind" (Issue 2/3) ** Some thoughts on music and PCC's philosophy of music standards.

"More Musings By lupos" (Issue 1/4) ** Responses to some of the topics at hand.

"Some Thoughts On Motives" (Issue 1/3) ** One of the early issues often confronted by The Student Voice was the motives of the editors. In this essay, this topic is dealt with head-on.

"Fearocracy" By: Anonymous (Issue 2/5) ** The result of PCC's oppressive atmosphere ultimately leads to a state of fear and uncertainty - two things Christianity knows nothing of.

"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" By: Anonymous (Issue 4/1) ** The Student Voice and PCC, from a reader's perspective

"The Ideology Underlying the PCC Tyranny" By: Anonymous (Issue 3/3) ** A potent essay demonstrating how PCC's system of conservative "standards" is really only a previous era's liberal standards.

"ISOLATIONISM: The Gospel of the Fundamentalist Movement" By: Nolan H. Bobbitt (Issue 6/2) ** Fundamentalism often misplaces its role as including an ultra dose of isolationism, sometimes even isolating themselves from the Word of God.

"Myths About Christianity: Christianity Stifles Personal Freedom" By: Anonymous (Issue 5/1) ** Christianity does not stifle personal freedom, and it is therefore essential to understand true Christianity, or oppression can otherwise result.

MISCELLANEOUS, THOUGHT-PROVOKING READING

"Academic Freedom" From THE IDEA OF A CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, by Arthur F. Holmes (Issue 5/3) ** Academic freedom is essential to correct character development as well as proper learning. This essay emphasizes an opposite approach to that mandated at PCC.

"Holier Than God" By: Rev. Andrew Sandlin, from the CHALCEDON REPORT (Issue 6/2) ** When we try to impose man-made standards on others and ourselves, we are simply adding to the teachings of Scripture. Are we being holy? Or are we being holier than God?

"More Thoughts On Fear" From OF GOD AND MEN, by A.W. Tozur (Issue 4/4) ** Are we doing what is right in the eyes of God, or are we simply fearing the opinions of man?

"New 'Bank' Account Daily" By: Robert G. Lee ** Our time is valuable; how are we using it?

"The Ones" A Song by Aaron Herman

"The Reformers" From the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF EDUCATION (Issue 2/4) ** A small piece on how students/alumni can change the policy of a college or university.

"Some Thoughts On Law Versus Rights" From THE LAW, by Frederic Bastiat (Issue 5/2) ** The interplay between law and rights is often complex. When one studies these two concepts together, another aspect becomes relevant - authority.

"Some Words About the 'Traditions of Men' " By: Jesus Christ (Issue 2/5) ** This is a passage of Scripture intended to provoke one's thoughts regarding what we as humans consider morality compared to what Christ called the "traditions of men."

"Thoughts On Power" From THE APPLAUSE OF HEAVEN, by Max Lucado (Issue 4/5) ** Some thoughts on how human nature is addicted to power, and problems when one abuses that power, however small it may be, can be devastating.
